People who love themselves don’t ignore the signs – self-love Sunday

Happy Sunday!

So… I will confess… I didn’t plan on doing a blog today. I was so busy trying to get my word count up for my next release that I was like, ‘I can’t do self-love Sunday. I can’t do Monday muse. I just can’t.’

My writing… it’s the only thing that I refuse to give up on in life. Like… straight up will not stop. There’s… I don’t have the ability to say, ‘I give up’ or ‘This book isn’t flowing right so let me stop.’

Nah, homie don’t play that.

I’ve been in places where I was 20k words in on a book, didn’t like it, started completely over, and had another 40k words done by release day. But to give up? To just stop? I don’t know how to do that.

Last night, I had an urge to record a three minute recording. I sat down and tried to create a video for it. An hour and a half later, I gave up. I shut my computer down and gave up. To my credit, when I got in bed, I put a request up on Fiverr for someone to create the video for me. (I’m quick to outsource anything that’s going to save me time 🙂 lol)

But when I woke up this morning, I was drawn back to that recording. To that video. Before I could even open the document that I’m supposed to be working on I was opening iMovie. Yet again. As I began to play around with the video again it started flowing. It started coming together beautifully. I was so freaking happy!!!

And then…

It happened.

That thing that’s been happening rather consistently lately.

I had an idea… for something that had absolutely nothing to do with a fiction book… and I wanted to dive into it far more than I wanted to work on my book. Wheeettttt? That…. no. Nothing has taken priority over my fiction books. The only thing that could ever take over was my priority. A shift in my priority. And that, beloved, is what this blog post is all about.

In the past I’ve prided myself on being in tune with my purpose. I knew that my gift was writing. My passion was teaching and counseling. My purpose was to combine the two – to use my writing to teach, inspire and help start the process of healing. For almost two years I’ve done so mostly through fictional romance novels.

Lately here, I’ve been feeling like it’s time to move to the next level of my purpose – nonfiction books, keynote speaking and REAL teaching. To be completely honest, I’ve been pushing it to the side. Staying in my comfort zone. Romance novels… they work. See, I’ve mastered them. I know what and how to write and how to get it into the hands it needs to be in. That’s my financial safe zone.

But all this other stuff??? Yea, I wanna do it, but… not full time. Not if it takes time away from my fiction.

This morning, I could no longer ignore the sign. The sign? Ideas upon ideas upon ideas. Knowledge flowing. Words seeping effortlessly. The drive… most definitely an invisible force… to do things that I wouldn’t choose to do on my own. Like spend two hours trying to create a video when I was supposed to be writing. Or wake up first thing in the morning to finish that video and start outlining and researching for a nonfiction book.

People who love themselves don’t ignore the signs. Why? Because people who love themselves understand that they will never be happier or more fulfilled than when they are walking in their purpose. Nothing can satisfy you the way answering your calling can. To be even more honest, the longer you push it off and try to fill that void with other things the more miserable you will be.

There are three callings that we all must answer and be prepared for – our purpose, our love and our eternity with God. IN THAT ORDER.

Are you ready to answer the call?

Until next time,

Love, B.

More character intros! – Coffee with a side of You

More character intros! – Coffee with a side of You

Okay!

I have NEVER been more excited for supporting characters than main characters.

Ever.

Like in my life.

Rocco and Nyx are life… and I’m so anxious to share their story with you… but it’s the supporting background characters and their lives that I find myself itching to pen with this novel.

Nyx has two best friends – Alex and Cassie.

Alex is married to Andrea, and I can’t really say for sure what I’m going to do with them just yet :). As of now, their marriage is on shaky ground because they didn’t take the time to get to know each other before tying the knot. They both wanted two completely different things out of life and marriage, and now Alex is paying for it.

Cassie… Cassie has some demons that need to be released. Those demons have a woman who is extremely beautiful on the outside insecure and ugly on the inside. Her soul has been so bruised that she’s completely detached herself from it.

I’m not quite sure what will become of these characters by the end of the book as I am still writing it, or if they will one day have their own novels, but what I do know is that they add a layer of relatable relational drama that is giving me all kinds of refreshing life!

You’ll meet them 9/6/17 🙂

Until next time,

Love, B.v1_2

Introduction to the cast of Coffee with a side of You

Introduction to the cast of Coffee with a side of You

Hey, Beloved!

It’s that time again! New book and new characters to fall in love with!

‘Coffee with a side of You’ has not only interesting main characters but an amazing cast of supporting characters as well!

Let’s start with our potential couple!

Rocco Tate & Nyx Fifer

Rocco Tate is a Real Estate Developer who has one goal – to finish building his entertainment district in one year. Rocco is confident. Almost cocky but with good reason. He’s extremely passionate and intense. Forceful. Determined – he lets nothing stand in his way of getting what he wants; and he always gets what he wants. Rocco dislikes shallow people and relationships of any kind, playing games and people who aren’t open. Although Rocco is a great catch and one of his city’s most eligible bachelors, he has a bad habit of breaking things off with women before the six month mark.

Nyx Fifer is the current manager of the family owned coffee shop Fifer’s Coffee. Her main goal is putting the pieces of her life back together after the relationship she thought would lead to marriage ended. Not only did Glenn, her ex, leave her heartbroken, but he also left her pockets empty. Nyx is a bit of a mesh pot of characteristics. She’s strong willed and outspoken at times, and at others… she’s shy, gentle and reserved. Nyx is a sensual, soulful spirit who easily draws both men and women in, and then there are periods of time where she closes herself off from the world completely. With one failed relationship trailing closely behind her, Nyx has absolutely no desire to wrestle with love again.

Here’s the secret recipe to their success – they balance each other out. What one lacks the other fills. They connect on a soulful level that they have never experienced with anyone else.

Here’s the potential deal breaker – they annoy the crap out of each other! The things that balance them out are also the things they can’t stand. For someone as open and intense and emotional as Rocco, it drives him crazy to be with a woman as detached as Nyx. For someone as grounded and minimal as Nyx, it drives her crazy to be with a man as proud and greedy as Rocco. Greedy… for all things – her included.

Of course, there is the whole thing of Rocco wanting to take Nyx’s family business, but hey? What’s wrong with a little business competition?

Meet me here Friday and I’ll introduce you to the supporting characters that I’m honestly even more excited about! 🙂

Until next time… oh wait!

The $5 a day stock market investing plan – Monday Muse review

The $5 a day stock market investing plan – Monday Muse review

“The $5 a day stock market investing plan” by Dr. Boyce Watkins is a quick but well put together startup guide for beginners looking to dive into the stock market. Although the book is only four chapters, it gives you a great foundation to a topic that can seem overwhelming when first starting.

I took two key points from this that are life changing if applied – 1. Wealthy people own businesses, stock and property. 2. The definition of compound interest and how it can lead to wealth.

For anyone wanting to increase their wealth, I highly recommend this book. It’s short and to the point and a great starting foundation for future stock owners.

If you would like to begin your journey of wealth building through the stock market, here’s the link to the book that will help you get started!

Until next time,

Love, B.

People who love themselves are comfortable with themselves.

People who love themselves are comfortable with themselves.

Hey, Beloved.

Can I let you in on something I learned? Sometimes, when we seek constant connection with others and try our hardest to remain in committed relationships it’s because we aren’t satisfied with ourselves. We aren’t comfortable with ourselves. We are ashamed of our flaws, weaknesses and failures so much so that we try to drown them and our thoughts out by consistently connecting with others.

Here’s the secret – in order for us to have healthy relationships with others we must have a healthy relationship with ourselves. An even deeper secret – when we don’t love ourselves the way we should, if we somehow attract a good person who wants to love us, we will unintentionally sabotage that relationship and push them away. Why? Because it will be hard for us to respect someone who loves us when we don’t love ourselves.

It will be hard for us to take that person’s feelings as true and sincere. We will end up causing them pain if they try to stick around long enough or they’ll leave us and make us feel even less worthy of love.

Crazy, right? I know. So how do we accept, appreciate and return love from friends and romantic partners? By first loving ourselves. Spend time with yourself. Get comfortable with yourself. Be at peace with your thoughts and those things that make you uniquely you.

Here’s another piece of free game – when it comes down to unconditional love… all those flaws and weaknesses that you think make you unworthy of love DON’T MATTER. Unconditional love is a choice, and it doesn’t take those flaws into account. Unconditional love… loves you just as you are. And isn’t that what we all want? Someone to love us unconditionally?

The first step to receiving that is loving yourself unconditionally.

Give it a try.

Until next time,

Love, B.

P.S. Share this with someone that you believe it will help 🙂

If You Ever Change Your Mind – Now Available

If You Ever Change Your Mind – Now Available

Hey, Beloved!

My next release is now available!

Here’s the synopsis –

Lucas Berry has never been the type to take the traditional route with anything in his life. Even when he considers it, life throws him a curveball that causes him to take an entirely different path. The last curveball, a pregnant friend with benefits, caused Lucas to make an illegal move that led to his sister, Luana, being bound to Jaxon Jeffries. At first meeting Jaxon, Lucas considers him to be a man that will never be worthy of his respect and admiration, but there is one thing that Jaxon shares with Lucas that changes his life forever – the importance of choosing a wife instead of letting something as reckless and irrational as love choose one for you.

Hali Davison has never been the type to step out of the traditional route with anything in her life. Even when she considers it, life throws her a curveball that causes her to return to the safe, predictable path she grew up on. The last curveball, finding out the man she’s loved all of her life practically was getting married to a woman that wasn’t her, has Hali reconsidering her safe and predictable lifestyle. If her last chance at letting Lucas know how she really feels for him is at his wedding… so be it.

Lucas is stuck between doing the right thing and following his heart. His childhood has made it difficult for him to believe that true love exists, which is a great deal of the reason why he’s fought his feelings for Hali over the years.

With his natural hair product line reaching heights he never thought were possible, Lucas is determined to secure his life mate now before his money, power and status make it impossible to choose a woman who wants him for him and not who he is and what he has. There’s just one question he’s faced with on the day of his wedding; is that woman Shanice, the woman responsible for giving him his first child, or Hali, the woman responsible for giving him his first taste of love – no matter how much he thought he didn’t want it.

*Please note, Lucas and Hali first appear in “Just Say You Love Me”. While their story can be read on its own, it is suggested that you read about their backgrounds in “Just Say You Love Me” first.

Monday Muse – Keeping Willow

Monday Muse – Keeping Willow

I waited for this story. Like, I ached for Devin and Willow. Why? Because Jacinta Howard is one of the few authors that make me feel. Me. Do you know how hard it is to make me feel? I spend hours a day every day writing books full time to make others feel. I’ve become numb in a sense as a reader because of the level in which I write. But there are some authors and some books that make me feel. That take me in. That allow me to read and just… enjoy a brief moment in this fantasy world without it being my work.

EVERY book that I’ve read by Jacinta Howard has offered me that escape. NO young contemporary African American romance author is on that level. Yes, there are some that can get me every once in a while, but the ONLY authors that have had that kind of power are the old school heavy hitters like Francis Ray, Donna Hill, Brenda Jackson and Beverly Jenkins.

Jacinta Howard is on that level, honey. Easily.

Keeping Willow left me empty and drained yet full. Light, but she took me so deep. It was an emotional push and pull that was like torture that soothed my soul. I think it hit me as much as it did because I just completed a book, ‘Just Say You Love Me’ and it was different for me in the sense that the main lead, Luana, had to experience self-love and growth before she could truly appreciate and accept love from the main male lead, Jaxon. I was so fearful of how my readers would react to Luana because of her issues, but here comes Jacinta – giving me Willow.

Sweet, precious Willow.

Willow was a woman who needed to experience self-growth, love, acceptance and appreciation before she could accept any of those things FULLY from Devin. She needed to be satisfied with herself and her life, and that tugged at my heart something serious. It was… calming… to read a story that was kind of like… confirmation that this new route I was taking was the right one.

Jacinta doesn’t just write good romance and love stories. She’s gives you the real. The ugly. That… perfect balance of perfect love shared between imperfect beings. I cannot wait for this book to be available as a paperback so I can add the entire Prototype series to my collection. Yes, there’s two other books for you to indulge in before getting to this one – ‘Happiness in Jersey’ and ‘Finding Kennedy’.

I give ‘Keeping Willow’ an extremely strong 5 stars. My review has already been left. Click here to head over to Amazon and read it for yourself today!
